Khalil Gibran was born on January 6, 1883 Bsharri town in the Mount Lebanon Mutasarrifate in a poor family and due to family’s poverty during his youth he does not received proper schooling in Lebanon.
As a young man Gibran emigrated with his family to United States and started school on September 30, 1895 and also enrolled in an art school at Denison House, a nearby settlement house. Gibran returned to his homeland to study at a Maronite-run preparatory school and higher-education institute “AL-Hikma” in Beirut at the age of 15. He elected “College Poet” because he started a student literacy magazine with a classmate. Then he returned to Boston in 1902. Gibran was a great follower of poet and writer Francis Marrash. He was a Christian and he is influenced not only by his own religion but also by Islam especially by the mysticism of the Sufi's.
He was well known because of his book “The Prophet” and his poetry often uses formal language and spiritual terms and many of his writings deal with Christianity, especially on the topic of spiritual love. But his mysticism is a convergence of several different influences: Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Theosophy.
