James
Patterson was born on 22nd March, 1947 in Newburgh, New York. He is
an American author and philanthropist. His father Charles Patterson was an
insurance broker and his mother Isabelle (Morris) was a homemaker and teacher.
In 1997 Patterson married to Sue Solie and the couple has a son, Jack.
He completed
his B.A. in English from Manhattan College and done M.A. in English from
Vanderbilt University. He left Vanderbilt University after one year and in year
1971 he took a job in advertising at ad agency J. Walter Thompson.
When he was
working at J. Walter Thompson he also wrote fiction in his spare time. In 1976
his first book “The Thomas Berryman Number” was published. This book gave him a
lot of success; it also won an “Edgar Award”, a top prize for mystery writers.
In 1996 he
retired from advertising and focus on writing. Patterson’s collection extends
to romance novels, science fiction, historical fiction and even nonfiction. In
addition, he has authored books for younger readers, with series such as “Maximum
Ride” and “Witch & Wizard”. Whatever the genre, Patterson is known for
writing involving, page-turning stories.
He was the
first person to sell 1 million e-books. He also works with a number of
co-writers. He has often said that collaborating with others brings new and
interesting ideas to his stories. His books have sold more than 300 million
copies. He also wrote many interesting quotes. The famous one is given below,
“Because
what’s worse than knowing you want something, besides knowing you can never
have it?”
In 2015,
Patterson was awarded the National Book Foundation's Literarian Award for
Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community. He is now alive may God
give him great success in every field of life.
