About Alexander Hamilton

Alexander Hamilton was an American statesman, an influential interpreter, promoter of the U.S. Constitution and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He born on 11 January 1755 in Charlestown, Nevis as a orphaned child and taken in by a prosperous merchant. Hamilton received “individual tutoring" and classes in a private school led by a Jewish headmistress because his parents are not legally married so the Church of England denied his membership and education in the church school. He worked as an assistant in a selling cargo to pay his education and support. In 1773, in preparation for college work, Hamilton began to fill gaps in his education at the Elizabethtown Academy, a preparatory school run by Francis Barber in Elizabethtown, New Jersey. In 1773 he entered as a private student in King's College in New York City and completed his metric in May 1774. Hamilton was a supporter of the Revolutionary cause at this pre-war stage. During British occupation of the city he was forced to discontinue his studies before graduating when the college closed its doors. When the war ended, after some months of self study by July 1782 Hamilton passed the bar exam and in October 1782 was licensed to argue cases before the Supreme Court of the State of New York. He was an extensive writer who wrote many quotes on different topics. His famous quote is given below,

“I think the first duty of society is justice.”

Hamilton continued his legal and business activities in New York City, and was active in ending the legality of the international slave trade. Vice president Burr challenged him to a duel in which Burr shot and mortally wounded because Hamilton campaigned against him as unworthy. He died the next day on July 12, 1804.
