AlanWilson Watts was a British-American philosopher who interpreted and popularisedEastern philosophy for a Western audience. Born in Chislehurst, England, hemoved to the United States in 1938 and began Zen training in New York. Pursuinga career, he attended Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, where he received amaster's degree in theology. Watts became an Episcopal priest in 1945, thenleft the ministry in 1950 and moved to California, where he joined the facultyof the American Academy of Asian Studies. By his own assessment, Watts wasimaginative, headstrong, and talkative. His notable work is to write the non-fictionbook the way of Zen. Alan’s Main interests were Personal identity, higherconsciousness, aesthetics, cultural criticism, public ethics and individualism Influences.He wrote many books like become what you are, nature man and women, out of yourmind, wisdom of insecurity. He wasreported to have been under treatment for a heart condition. On 16 November1973, he died in his sleep
